Fantasy Football Camp Impact: Preston Williams (WR – MIA)

A talented wide receiver who went undrafted due to off-field issues, Williams showed his maturity and decision making skills by choosing to join the Miami Dolphins as an UDFA. He has shined all training camp and is making a distinct impression on the Dolphins. He has impressed so much that Kenny Stills posited that Williams is a first round talent.

He has been mentored by former Pro Bowl receiver Brandon Marshall, as well as his presumed starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

He has shown good chemistry with both Dolphins quarterbacks and has the makings of a future number one receiver. Williams exploded for 97 yards off of four receptions in his first preseason action and should continue to see first team reps for the Dolphins.

Here is what stud cornerback Xavier Howard had to say about his new teammate:

"“That guy can be special,” Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard said of Williams after Saturday’s scrimmage. “He’s still learning. He’s just a rookie. [There] is so much room for improvement with him, but he’s going to be a No. 1 receiver one day.” When asked why, Howard answered with this: “I’ve been playing against receivers all of my life,” Howard said, “so I know what it takes.”"

Williams is a high IQ, physical receiver who knows how to eat up coverage, find the soft spots in zone, as well as how to utilize his frame and length to shield the ball from defenders.

He has routinely showed off his excellent body control and hands. Williams has an outfielder like nose and desire for the ball and reminds one of a less polished A.J. Green.

With only Davante Parker resembling anything close to an ideal number one or two receiver on the Dolphins roster, WIilliams could be in line for some serious depth chart climbing this season. He already seems well on his way to doing just that, and has made a name for himself in the process.

Unfortunately this means his average draft position is going to rise, so be aggressive relative to ADP if he is one of your targets. Fifth in the FBS in deep receiving yards in 2018, consider Williams a WR4 with WR2 upside.
