MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Cash Game Ace

Clayton Kershaw (12k FD, 11.8k DK) @ Miami

“Kershaw goes fishing Day” was supposed to be yesterday, but he had his start bumped back to today instead and instantly became the best play on the slate by a mile. We’ve seen the old Kershaw lately, as he’s returned to form nicely in the second half of the season after some early-season struggles. He’s in the middle of a really solid stretch in which he’s allowed two runs or less in six straight starts.

One of those starts was a six-inning domination of the Marlins in which he struck out 10 while allowing only 3 baserunners. The Marlins are an easy team to target with elite pitchers as they have ranked at or near the bottom in most offensive categories all year round. I typically like targeting them with righties, but Kershaw isn’t just “any old lefty” and certainly has the type of stuff to dominate their lineup or any lineup of major league hitters for that matter.

The price might seem high, but just remember that Kershaw has arguably the highest floor of any player on this entire slate. Paying up for pitching instead of bats is more often than not the right way to go and I’d much rather go hunting for value bats to fit with Kershaw than play a lesser pitcher in any of my cash games. Just pay up, he’s worth it.
