Fantasy Football: Bold Predictions and Hot Takes
This is hard to put as a hot take because I really like this guy, even as a Steelers fan, and I think he’s in a great position this year with the Browns.
However, I did some digging and realized that Odell Beckham has missed a lot of games. Whether that can be attributed to his bad situation in New York (who would want to take the field with Eli?) or if he’s somewhat fragile is to be determined.
When you look at his career stats on pro football reference, you can see he played in 15+ games only twice. With the draft capital that you’re putting on him (5th wide receiver drafted going at the end of the 1st round), you’re putting yourself at risk that he may miss your fantasy football playoff weeks when you need him most. Is that a risk worth taking?
Probably…but hey I have to try and at least sell my hot take, right? Afterall, this is the hot take section and I’m here to say he’s going to blow up on Baker when he doesn’t get enough targets and he ends up playing 9 games and performing worse than we expect.
Sticking with the wide receiver position here, Marvin Jones is being drafted as the 40th wide receiver. Yes you read that correctly…the 40th wide receiver (according to fantasy football calculator).
Last year he didn’t get to play the full season and had some health struggles. Combine that with his quarterback Matt Stafford also having health issues and a new offense, you have a recipe for a bad season.
Personally, I think this team has an incredibly underrated wide receiver duo between Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones – not to mention they also drafted Hockenson the tight end REALLY high plus they have Kerryon Johnson who I love.
All of that tells me this offense is looking to get going this year. Comparing year to year is tough considering there’s been a change of coaching staff but my gut tells me Matt Patricia is smart enough to let people do what they’re hired for and focus on their expertise with his being more defensive.
Also, as much as I love Kerryon, he’s not really built for a 300 carry season so they’re still going to be airing it out instead of running, punting, and playing defense. My hot take here is Marvin will look more like his 2017 self and get over 110 targets, over 1400 yards, and will finish as a top 20 wide receiver.
