5. Marcus Rashford bags double as Manchester United win at Wolves

Last season Manchester United came under a lot of criticism and rightly so considering their lackluster performances under Jose Mourinho. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came in and led the team on an unbelievable run but then began to falter. Fortunately for the Norwegian, he’d already secured the full-time position by this time.

This left many United fans wondering what might be this season. That question may have been answered on Sunday when the Red Devils beat Chelsea 4-0. However, that scoreline was perhaps a little flattering for the Manchester side. They were the better side over 90 minutes but Chelsea definitely didn’t deserve to lose by that scoreline.

One thing did become clear for United fans though – Marcus Rashford is ready to step up and lead this side from the front. The England international put away a penalty and coolly finished a difficult chance after using his blistering pace to escape the Chelsea defense.

With Romelu Lukaku’s departure, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are the main men when it comes to goalscoring at Manchester United. If they’re not scoring then United aren’t winning which means they need to stand up and recognise the level of club that they’re playing for.

That’s exactly what they did last weekend with both players finding the net. That pattern needs to continue if United want to be successful this season. This weekend (Monday) they have a very tough game as they travel to face Wolves – last season’s Premier League surprise package.

Wolves knocked United out of the FA Cup at Molineux and will be quietly confident of getting another result against the Red Devils. That doesn’t mean that Nuno’s side will be naive but they will know that if they play to their optimum they can get something from this match-up.

The only difficulty for Wolves is that they’re also involved in Europa League qualifying which has made their early season schedule busier than most clubs. Wolves will open the scoring through Diogo Jota but Marcus Rashford will net a brace before Anthony Martial scores the game-ending goal in a 3-1 win for United.
