Bulletproof Bashers- Sat. Aug. 17 Evening Slates- 2B, SS

SECOND BASE:

Ryan McMahon, COL

Opposing Starting Pitcher: RHP Hector Noesi

McMahon is in the midst of a breakout season and has hit right-handed pitching particularly well in the friendly confines of Coors Field. McMahon owns a .306 average, .388 wOBA, .242 ISO, 261. percent line-drive rate and 43.5 percent hard-contact rate against righties in his home park. Marlins starter Hector Noesi has been reasonably effective against left-handed hitters over a limited sample this season, but he’s allowed 40 home runs and a .343 wOBA to that side of the plate over his long career.

Noesi hasn’t had much success with his most frequently thrown pitch to left-handed hitters, the fastball sinker. That’s an offering McMahon sports a .413 CXwOBA against and one on which Noesi is allowing a .397 wOBA on. Then, Noesi is even more hittable when throwing his slider, his second-most frequently thrown pitch to lefty bats. Noesi is surrendering a .439 wOBA and eye-popping .545 ISO on the slider, while McMahon is sporting a .402 CXwOBA and an average distance of 325.9 feet when making contact on it.

McMahon will still be in fine shape once Noesi departs, as the Marlins bullpen entered the weekend having allowed an NL-high 8.57 ERA, .295 average and .434 wOBA to the 170 batters they’d faced over the prior 10 days.

SHORTSTOP:

Trea Turner, WAS

Opposing Starting Pitcher: RHP Jordan Lyles, MIL

Turner has multiple metrics in his favor on Saturday. To begin with, he’s punished Brewers starter Jordan Lyles to the tune of a .571 average over seven career encounters. That sample includes a double, a home run and zero strikeouts. Then, Turner owns a .318 average, .383 wOBA and .220 ISO against right-handed pitching at Nationals Park. Meanwhile, Lyles has been bailed out against right-handed hitters in part by a low .268 BABIP, which has helped him limit the potential damage of the 44.9 percent hard-contact rate he allows that handedness.

Lyles is struggling to limit the damage on his most frequently thrown pitch to right-handed hitters this season, a fastball that averages just under 93 mph and that he’s yielding a .383 wOBA, .385 CXwOBA and .272 ISO on. In turn, Turner is squaring up on heaters of that speed to the tune of a .482 wOBA and .299 ISO while striking out just 14.0 percent of the time.

Once Lyles has finished his night’s work, Turner will take his hacks against a Brewers bullpen that has been on a downward spiral. Milwaukee relievers entered Friday night’s action surrendering a .342 wOBA over the prior 10 days of play.
