Bulletproof Bashers- Sat. Aug. 17 Evening Slates- 3B, OF

THIRD BASE:

Rafael Devers, BOS

Opposing Starting Pitcher: RHP Asher Wojciechowski, BAL

Devers’ breakout campaign includes a whopping .346 average, 19 homers and a .421 wOBA against right-handed pitching, along with a 26.3 percent line-drive rate versus that handedness at Fenway Park. Orioles starter Asher Wojciechowski has been hit hard by left-handed hitters, surrendering a 11 extra-base hits (out of 17 allowed), a 6.37 xFIP and a .367 wOBA, all while still benefiting from an unsustainably low .220 BABIP.

More from DFS

Wojciechowski most often throws his low-90s fastball to left-handed hitters, a pitch he’s allowing a .390 CXwOBA and .212 ISO on overall. Devers is squaring up on the pitch for a .410 wOBA, .482 CXwOBA and .298 ISO, making it a perfect match for his offensive profile. The matchup sets up almost as well for Devers with Woj’s second-most thrown pitch to lefty bats, the slider. While the Orioles’ starter allows a .334 wOBA and .392 CXwOBA on that offering, Devers generates a .369 wOBA and .404 CXwOBA against it.

Once Wojciechowski departs, Devers will still have a golden opportunity to continue raking against an Orioles bullpen that has struggled most of the season and that went into Friday’s game allowing a majors-high 9.84 ERA, a .366 average and a .391 wOBA (including 30 extra-base hits) to the 196 hitters they’d faced over the prior 10 days.

ALSO CONSIDER: Nolan Arenado, COL

OUTFIELD:

A.J. Pollock, LAD

Opposing Starting Pitcher: RHP Mike Foltynewicz, ATL

Pollock has owned Braves starter Mike Foltynewicz over the course of their respective careers, posting a .600 average with a double and a homer over 12 career plate appearances versus the righty. Pollock has admittedly scuffled versus right-handers overall this season, but that’s partly offset by Foltynewicz surrendering a  .300 average and .401 wOBA to righty bats at SunTrust Park, along with a 48.4 percent hard-contact rate.

Foltynewicz is most often throwing his slider to right-handed hitters, and he’s allowing a .359 wOBA and .426 CXwOBA on the pitch overall. It’s just about as bad with the two pitches that both qualify as his second-most thrown to righty bats — a mid-90s fastball and a fastball sinker. Pollock is carrying a .358 wOBA against the former and a .357 wOBA versus the latter while posting impressively stingy 13.9 percent and 10.3 percent strikeout rates, respectively.

Pollock should have a favorable matchup throughout the entirety of the game, as the Braves bullpen entered Friday’s action with a 7.86 ERA, majors-high .391 BAA and .408 wOBA allowed over the 34.1 innings they logged over the previous 10 days.
