MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Cash Game Ace?

Kyle Gibson (7.4k FD, 10.1k DK)

The price discrepancy is massive, but one look at Draftkings pricing and you’ll see that they priced up most of these “good” pitchers with elite pitcher price tags (11.2k for Wade Miley, really?) On FanDuel, Gibson is an easy play as rostering him leaves you with 3,450 to spend per hitter. Paying 10k for him on Draftkings isn’t as easy, but in cash games, I would still recommend it as there is really only one other cheap guy I trust (more on him later).

It can be a trap sometimes to only use past performance against a team as a predictor of future performance, but with Gibson, it’s hard to ignore what he’s done against this White Sox team this season. In two starts he’s pitched 13 innings while striking out 18 and allowing only two earned runs. He won both games and went over the 50 FanDuel point threshold in both, too.

The White Sox have been hitting the ball better but had a number of matchups against bad lefties in the Angels series. Gibson’s arsenal of pitches is better suited to tame them as he throws a sinker/slider mix that is tough on right-handers. He has the best swinging strike rate on the slate at 13%. When you combine that with the White Sox and their 25.6% strikeout rate, it’s easy to see why he’s had so much success against them.

Gibson is a -200 home favorite who is badly underpriced on FanDuel. Lock him in as your cash game pitcher and strongly consider using him as your SP1 on Draftkings, too.
