MLB DFS Pitching Primer: Draftkings SP2

Joe Ross (6.9k DK) @ Pittsburgh

Joe Ross is a “hold your nose and click” type of play today as none of his numbers are going to stand out on any spreadsheets in a positive way. But we really need some value on this slate, and of the pitchers below 7k on Draftkings, Ross is the one guy I think I can stomach using over the others.

He’s filled in admirably as the Nats fifth starter and is on quite a nice run right now, allowing only one earned run over his last 17 innings of work. Those games were against Arizona, San Francisco, and Cincinnati so not exactly top offenses, but that’s pretty much the same type of situation he’s in today as he faces the Pirates and their weak offense.

The Bucs offensive rankings have been plummeting since early July as they now rank near the bottom in many offensive categories. They could still bash Ross tonight, but I am willing to bet that they don’t as their recent hot streak was quickly extinguished by the Cubs over the weekend.

Ross is definitely not a strikeout pitcher, but this spot stands out from a run prevention standpoint and I think he deserves consideration at this price point in this matchup.
