Daily fantasy golf: FanDuel PGA – Top tier picks: ($12,000+)

Justin Thomas – $14,200 – (Cash/GPP)

After taking the time to figure out how this scoring will go this week, my only conclusion is that I am fairly confident that FanDuel got the pricing right considering the starting strokes format.

We have never seen a golfer on FanDuel priced over $12,600 that I can remember, and what we are getting with JT at this price this week is a two-stroke lead right off the bat, as he will start at 10-under par. Patrick Cantlay who is currently in second place to start will begin his round at 8-under.

Thomas is one of the best iron-players in the world, and that part of his game is actually underrated. It is clear that he is back to 100% and well-focused on this massive payday after his 61 on Saturday and subsequent battle with Cantlay on Sunday at the BMW Championship.

There are multiple ways to look at this, but I cannot find a scenario where I can completely fade a player as hot as J.T. considering his massive advantage from the start.

Sure he could come out and bogey the first couple of holes and things will be up in the air again, but he could more easily come out and birdie the first two holes, and get out to quick four-shot lead if others near the top only make par.

I have to play him at this price in this scoring format, but I will definitely make a lineup without him as well.

You have to think he will be between 40-50% owned in large field GPP’s at the very least, and there are pretty much only things two things that will give you an edge to win big money with a small pool of just 30 golfers.

Contrarian plays, and not using your fully allotted salary cap. Leaving between $500-$1000 of your salary here is a great way to assure yourself some variance from duplicate lineups.

I think I have decided on five lineups this week, and Thomas will likely be in three or four of them. I think he holds on to his lead and wins here at East Lake this week.

There are two other golfers in this range this week in Patrick Cantlay and Brooks Koepka, and I am fading both. This is not the course fit for Cantlay, and Brooks has not fared much better here over the years either. Let’s continue to the mid-tier range.
