1. Xander Schauffele (Starting at 4-under)

Seemingly flying under the radar since his two wins early in the season, Xander Schauffele enters the 2019 Tour Championship ranked eighth in the FedEx Cup standings. He’s been consistently one of the better players on the PGA Tour this season, even if the results haven’t always lined up with that.

In terms of his overall game, Schauffele has been rock-solid throughout. The 25-year old ranks 14th on the tour in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green and 47th in Strokes Gained: Putting. While the latter statistic isn’t evidence of him playing at an elite level all around, it does show that there’s no part of his game this season that you could remotely consider a liability.

On top of that, Schauffele has stepped up in big events already this season. He finished tied for second at The Masters back in April and then tied for third at the U.S. Open in June. And while he missed the cut at Royal Portrush, he still notched a top-20 finish at the PGA Championship. The fact that he’s brought his game in the big moments to this point in the season serves him well.

Perhaps most of all, though, Schauffele has been great at East Lake in his young career. He won the event back in 2017 and finished tied for seventh last year. The fact that he’s performed well on this course, in addition to everything else, makes it appear as if he’ll be able to possibly erase the six-shot deficit he’s starting with and potentially win it all.
