Predicting College GameDay destinations: Are they comin’ to your city in 2019?
Week 15: Dec. 7 – SEC Championship Game (Atlanta, GA)
The final week of the season before bowl season belongs to conference championship week. Each conference will produce a conference champion and then the next day we all get to complain about how the playoff committee got it wrong and feelings will be hurt and had.
Typically, College GameDay has gone between the SEC Championship Game and the Big Ten Championship Game. The Pac-12 holds there game on a Friday, which is a discussion for another day.
Picking the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta isn’t exactly taking a huge leap here. If it’s Alabama and Georgia playing for it all again after last year’s classic and their National Championship Game before that, then it’s the place to be.
Should it be something else, the Big 12 Championship Game is now certainly worth a visit as well. Especially, if Texas and Oklahoma meet for conference supremacy.
The issue with the ACC has been the fact that its Clemson up against some program they’re going to roll by 30 points. Until there is a serious challenger to dethroning them among the likes of Virginia, Virginia Tech, Pitt or whomever, it’s hard to see GameDay heading to Charlotte for that game.
SEC bias is a thing but if the potential exists for the two best teams in the country to meet with the potential of just one program making the playoffs is on the line, its the game of the week.
