EPL DFS: Value Defenders

David Luiz (Arsenal @ Liverpool, $12) – I like David Luiz for most of the same reasons I like Sokratis.  A matchup with Liverpool for him should be a good one, he’s cheap, and he won’t be very high owned.  Luiz also provides more attacking upside than any defender for this cheap.  There isn’t much else I’m looking for from a value defender.

Angelo Ogbonna (West Ham United @ Watford, $10) – A few years ago when I first started writing EPL DFS Breakdowns, Ogbonna was one of the better defenders at getting peripherals.

He hasn’t been fit for a consistent period of time lately, but he started last game for WHU and got all the way up to 18.2 fantasy points without a clean sheet bonus.

This game should be no different for Ogbonna.  At $10, I’m looking for any defender who can get me safely into double digits, and Ogbonna should be able to hit that mark fairly easily.

Joel Ward and Scott Dann (Crystal Palace @ Manchester United, $10) – I haven’t nailed down my Crystal Palace plays yet this season, but I’m hoping to change that on Saturday.  Manchester United are the largest favorite on the slate, so tradition would tell me to prioritize Dann as a center defender.

However, it’s been Ward with the superior fantasy numbers so far this year.  Last year at Old Trafford, CP bunkered down and held Manchester United scoreless.  While a clean sheet bonus isn’t likely, I wouldn’t completely rule it out.  Both are viable as salary-savers this week.
