5 bold Premier League predictions this weekend: Liverpool and Arsenal draw
2. Manchester City put five past Bournemouth
Manchester City will look to get back to winning ways this weekend – something we don’t write all that often. The Cityzens were held by Spurs last weekend in an entertaining 2-2 draw although VAR had a say once again in a matchup between the two sides.
VAR famously denied a late Manchester City winner in the Champions League last season and the new refereeing system repeated this feat last weekend as it denied Gabriel Jesus a later goal.
This left Pep Guardiola and his side a little frustrated but it also gives hope to the rest of the Premier League. All predictions point to City retaining their title which is no fun for other Premier League fans or just neutrals watching the game. Therefore, every time Guardiola’s side are less than perfect it suggests that someone else could lift the Premier League crown in May.
This weekend Bournemouth will try their hand at beating the current champions. The Cherries have the same amount of points as City after a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United and a good win away at Aston Villa last weekend.
Bournemouth started that game very strongly as they raced into a 2-0 goal lead inside 15 minutes. However, Eddie Howe’s side were made to sweat a little at the end with Villa coming up with a late rally to almost snatch a draw.
Eddie Howe has done a remarkable job with this Bournemouth side and the longer they remain in the top flight the stronger they become as a top-tier side. That doesn’t mean that they should be competing with the likes of Manchester City but they can start to make these games difficult for them.
These games are almost seen as freebies for any team outside of the top six as nobody will be expecting Bournemouth to take anything from this match. That should give them a license to play the soccer they want to and put more pressure on Manchester City.
Unfortunately for Bournemouth fans, Guardiola’s side seems to thrive on pressure and the thought of going one better. This weekend they need to go more than one better and make up for points dropped last weekend.
The Cherries won’t stand a chance this weekend as they are blown away by a City side looking to set things straight. Guardiola’s side will put five past the south-coasters who will only manage a late consolation in a 1-5 defeat.
