Andrew Luck’s sudden retirement has left a lot of fantasy owners in a massive bind, but there are some solutions out there for intrepid minded players.

While the Indianapolis Colts are no doubt reeling from the sudden retirement of quarterback Andrew Luck, the news affects another significant NFL community: fantasy owners. Many leagues held their drafts over the past few weeks, and anyone who took Luck to be their QB1 is flat out of luck right now.

Hopefully you drafted a solid backup since Luck was already iffy due to a calf injury before the retirement, but if you didn’t here are a few options to fill your hole at quarterback.

Jimmy Garoppolo

Ignore the awful preseason showing in his preseason debut. Jimmy Garoppolo was a highly hyped fantasy prospect before tearing his ACL a year ago, and Kyle Shanahan can cook up some big time plays for the 49ers’ gunslinger.

Kyler Murray

You’re throwing darts here looking for some significant upside, and there may not be a bigger dart throw here than taking the number one pick in April’s draft. Kyler Murray is running the Air Raid in Arizona, and the Cardinals will be trailing plenty, so expect Murray to put up some huge numbers.

Jameis Winston

Winston has struggled with inconsistency in the past, but he is now receiving tutelage from noted quarterback whisperer Bruce Arians, who revived Carson Palmer’s career in Arizona. If Arians can get Winston to lower his turnovers, expect big dividends from the Bucs’ signal caller, who has plenty of weapons at his disposal.

Sam Darnold

Another young quarterback poised for a sneaky good year is Sam Darnold. The Jets have given him an offensive minded coach in Adam Gase and new weapons like Le’Veon Bell and Jamison Crowder. Darnold has looked sharp in Gase’s system in the preseason, so he could be a steal for suffering Luck owners.
