FanDuel MLB DFS Breakdown: GPP Pitchers

Zac Gallen (8.8k) @ Milwaukee

Gallen is my favorite pivot off Clevinger tonight and while he’s not cheap, he’s still going to allow you to upgrade your bats substantially and give you the flexibility to stack some of your favorite offenses. Gallen has been one of the most impressive rookie pitchers in all of baseball this year, compiling a 2.45 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 51 innings with Miami and Arizona.

He’s coming off a strange start against the Rockies in which he walked a season-high 6 batters, but still somehow managed to only give up one run over 6 innings. His control will be something we have to keep an eye on going forward, as he has a tendency to try to nibble at the corners too much with his offspeed pitches, but at the same time, that is also what has made him so successful this season.

The Brewers are not usually a team I want to target with pitchers, but Gallen has the type of quality arsenal that I believe can tame that lineup and there really aren’t many cheap arms with upside tonight for tournaments in my opinion. Instead, I’m targeting the mid-tier for GPPs.

Max Fried (8.5k) @ New York Mets

Fried continues to get it done for the Braves this season, compiling a 14-4 record for Atlanta in only his second MLB season. He’s not usually a high strikeout pitcher, but does have a 10K game recently against the Twins and also struck out 8 Dodgers in his last outing. Fried relies on a solid groundball rate to get easy outs and I am always interested in ground ball pitchers in good run prevention spots like Fried is in tonight.

He’s on the road against the Mets but actually gets a nice boost in park factor at Citi Field. He’s pitched well against the Mets this season, going 1-0 over two starts with 10 strikeouts over 12 innings while allowing only two earned runs. The Mets bats have gone quiet lately, and I like Fried’s chances tonight of keeping them silent for a little while longer.
