20. New York Jets

2018 Review: While rookie quarterback Sam Darnold and the New York offense had its good and bad moments, the Jets’ defense disappointed once again. When the team finished 10-6 back in 2015, Todd Bowles’ club would amass an impressive 30 takeaways. Since then, the Jets have forced 14, 20 and 20 turnovers, respectively. In 2018, the team finished 25th in the league in total defense for the second straight season. Still, this was a unit that had some bright spots as inside linebacker Avery Williams and safety Jamal Adams could be found all over the field.

2019 Key Additions: The club used the third overall pick in in this year’s draft to take talented defensive tackle Quinnen Williams. The franchise opened up the checkbook in a big way and signed four-time Pro Bowl inside linebacker C.J. Mosley away from the Baltimore Ravens. And last but not least in this department, the Green and White’s new defensive coordinator is aggressive Gregg Williams, late of the Cleveland Browns.

Analysis: The recent loss of productive inside linebacker Avery Williamson to a knee injury is a big blow (the Jets added veteran Albert McClellan). But Williams has a lot of tools to work with, especially in the form of Mosley, Williams, defensive end Leonard Williams and star safety Jamal Adams. This team has struggled against the run the past two seasons and needs to shore that up quickly. This could be a sneaky good group via the new coordinator.
