5. Utah State (+150) vs. Wake Forest

Jamie Newman being named the starting quarterback for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in 2019 is reason for fans in Winston-Salem, NC to get excited. The junior quarterback stepped in at the end of last season and had Wake playing their best football of the year, guiding the Demon Deacons to three wins in his four starts at the helm of the offense. That’s certainly good news for the signal-caller and his team.

At the same time, however, there are also causes for concern as it pertains to Wake Forest in the 2019 season. While Newman is back at the helm and while there are some highly touted and semi-productive players still on the offense, the unit has to contend with losing Greg Dortch, their do-it-all playmaker from a year ago. Not having that game-breaker is a hit to the Demon Deacons.

That’s not the reason that the Utah State Aggies have the edge for me in this matchup, though. Instead, that comes down to Utah State quarterback Jordan Love, their explosive offense and the fact that the Wake Forest defense has been quite suspect in recent years.

Yes, the Aggies lost the bulk of their starters on offense around Love. However, the infrastructure set up by Matt Wells prior to his departure and now being instituted by Gary Andersen around Love is strong for this team. And when you put them against a Wake Forest team that has had severe difficulties stopping any kind of quality offense, that should spell success for Utah State.

Given that Andersen’s team are the underdogs in this matchup, that means take the moneyline and get the better odds here.
