FanDuel MLB DFS Breakdown: GPP Pitchers

Kenta Maeda (8700) @ San Diego

Maeda is probably the most expensive pitcher I’ll use tonight when building my rosters as I am prioritizing bats over expensive arms tonight. This is a little more than you’re used to paying for Maeda and he always carries some risk of blowing up or not pitching all that deep into a game, but this spot is worth the risk for me.

The Padres continue to strike out at a ridiculous 26.5% rate which is tied for worst on this slate with Detroit. Maeda already has a 12-strikeout performance against San Diego on his resume this season, too.

Mike Foltynewicz (7700) @ Toronto

Folty was a favorite of mine last season, but this year has been a tough one for him. He seems to have regained some of his strikeout prowess since returning from injury two weeks ago as he’s piled up 26 K’s in his last four starts spanning 23 innings. He’s a risky guy to use with how much hard contact he allows and his propensity for giving up the long ball, but the strikeout upside is worth chasing in this spot against the Jays today.

Anthony DeScalfani (7600) @ Miami

DeScalfani is probably my favorite cheap option tonight as he comes into this game in good form allowing only two earned runs over his last 11 innings. He has the perfect matchup tonight against Miami and their nearly all right-handed lineup of hitters. DeScalfani’s biggest weakness is lefties as he struggles against them, but he’s been very effective against righties this season limiting them to a .272 wOBA and a .147 ISO while striking out them out at a 26% clip.

This ballpark is a major upgrade for these Cincinnatti pitchers in this series and while Luis Castillo struggled a bit last night, I expect DeScalfani to take care of business tonight and handle this Marlins lineup.
