Fantasy Football: Player Profile – Derrick Henry

The 2019 verdict on Derrick Henry

The upside is certainly there for Derrick Henry and so is the downside. While it’s extremely enticing and exhilarating to chase the type or production that Henry displayed during the final quarter of the 2018 season, the overall body of work on top of his the status of both his health and the Titans offense makes him too hard for me to trust in the 3rd or 4th rounds of my drafts, especially in PPR formats.

He’s currently ranked as the RB19 on ESPN, ahead of players like Chris Carson (RB21) and David Montgomery (RB22). On top of being ranked ahead of both of those backs, who have a quicker route to more reliable volume on a consistent basis, he’s also ranked ahead of Julian Edelman, the trio of Rams wide receivers, Sony Michel (RB24) and James White (RB25). All of these are players that I would trust more than Derrick Henry on my fantasy team (aside from James White in non-PPR formats).

If Henry is there towards the tail-end of the 4th round and you desperately need a running back, sure, grab him, but he’s far from a player that I would prioritize this season until he gives us a consistent reason not to.
