2020 NFL Mock Draft: Tua Tagovailoa heads to South Beach
By Brad Weiss
The Houston Texans had some major issues at the running back position this summer, as Lamar Miller was lost for the season with a torn ACL. To make matters worse, they released former third round pick D’Onta Foreman, a player who was once considered the future at the position for the Texans.
As they started to look around for a new feature back in 2019, they made a trade with the Cleveland Browns for Duke Johnson Jr., who was unhappy in Cleveland anyway. With Johnson as the starter, it is clear this franchise needs to look towards a long-term solution at the position, so why not go with the best running back this draft class has to offer in the first round next April.
Jonathan Taylor is a special kind of running back, and he has spent the last couple of seasons running all over Big Ten defenses for the Wisconsin Badgers. He would be a perfect compliment to Deshaun Watson at quarterback, a player who is becoming an absolute star at the NFL level, as well as arguably the best wide receiver in football in DeAndre Hopkins.
The New Orleans Saints should be one of the better teams in the NFC in 2019, as Drew Brees returns for another go around in the Bayou. This offseason, the Saints dished out a ton of money to wide receiver Michael Thomas, making him the highest-paid wideout in the NFL, and rightfully so, as he was way underpaid on his rookie contract.
When it comes to the Saints receiving corps, there is some talent behind Thomas, but the franchise could decide to focus on the position group in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. One player they could look to target is Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who many figure to be a first round pick this April.
Lamb has had the luxury of playing with two Heisman Trophy winners the last two seasons, and enters his junior campaign fresh off a 1,000-yard season in 2018. He would be a perfect compliment to Thomas in this passing game, and with an elite running back in Alvin Kamara, that would give the Saints three dynamic weapons on the offensive side of the ball.
