FanDuel CFB DFS picks for the main Saturday, August 31st slate

FanDuel CFB: Running Back and Wide Receiver
Now for the harder part, the running back and wide receiver positions. This position can be difficult for many reasons, and one of our cheap sleeper running back picks is a good summary of why these positions are so difficult to pin down.
Alabama is hosting Duke in what appears to be a very winnable game for the Crimson Tide. It’s likely the Tide don’t need to air out the ball all game, so we should see a heavy volume of run plays, especially as the game moves into the second half.
If you look at the Bama running backs, PLEASE read up on who’s available today. It’s oddly likely that freshman Keilan Robinson ($4,500) gets the ball the most in the FIRST half of the game.
Several of the Tide’s top backs could see suspended time due to missing team activities, which blows the door wide open for a very cheap, and off the radar, running back play on a team who knows how to slam the ball down your throat.
I realize the Georgia Bulldogs are a very difficult defense to play against, but the Vanderbilt Commodores offense is better than the average CFB realizes. Vandy’s O features several top offensvie talents, including Ke’Shawn Vaughn ($9,200) who ran for 79 yards on just nine carries against Georgia last season.
Vaughn is another sneaky play at the running back position, and he’s cheaper than many of the top feature backs for the FanDuel CFB slate Saturday.
But, my favorite back in this slate is AJ Dillon ($10,200). As a VT fan, it pains me to say this but the Hokies offense was a shell of its former self last season and I’m not surprised Bud Foster is suddenly ‘retiring’ this season. They need to move on, it’s obvious.
The Hokies D might be better this season, but managing Dillon is very terrible task to take on for the first week. With 24 carries, AJ onlly had 96 yards against VT last year, but he also punched in a TD. But, Dillon exceeded 100 yards most of the time last year and has a good chance of doing so again today.
That being said, the VT defense is a bit of a question-mark, and I’m willing to use more value with these picks to snag some better wide receivers.
Before we get to my favorite two wide outs, let’s stick with Virginia Tech @ Boston College game and look at the Hokies offense. One bright side for the Hokies over the last three seasons has been a better passing game.
Another bright spot on the receiving corps for the Hokies is Hezekiah Grimsley ($7,300). With many of the other receiver options leaving the program, there are now obvious top receivers in this program and Grimsley is one of the better players with a big body. He should have another a 10+ FanDuel CFB game in Boston Saturday.
We do have a Longhorn quarterback, and being able to afford Collin Johnson ($9,600) with Ehlinger would be a treat. Fortunately, if you use the value plays at the RB position, Johnson is affordable while still picking another expensive high-point play.
I’m also tempted to pick likely NFL talent Jerry Jeudy ($9,900) but I’m not, yet, confident Bama is going to air the ball out often on Saturday, so his FanDuel CFB points are likely narrowed down to just a couple big-play situations.
As I scan through the rest of the wide receiver options, I keep coming back to the Commodores Kalija Lipscomb ($9,000). This is another sneaky Vandy top offensive talent who likely flies under the radar against Georgia on Saturday, but could put up over 20 FanDuel CFB points.
