Bulletproof Bashers- Sat. Aug. 31 evening slates- SS, OF

SHORTSTOP:

Xander Bogaerts, BOS

Opposing Starting Pitcher: LHP Dillon Peters, LAA

Bogaerts has battered left-handed pitching for a .378 wOBA,.279 ISO and massive 51.8 percent hard-contact rate on the road. Peters’ weaknesses against right-handed hitters were already detailed in Vazquez’s entry earlier. The lefty’s struggles alone make it a premium matchup for Bogaerts.

More from DFS

However, the Red Sox shortstop also does very well against Peters’ low-90s fastball, his most often thrown pitch against right-handed hitters. Bogaerts is mashing that speed of heater for a .430 wOBA and .407 ISO while averaging an impressive 337.6 feet when making contact. The suspect Angels bullpen will also make excellent targets for Bogaerts, with their poor numbers having already been detailed in Vazquez’s entry as well.

ALSO CONSIDER: Trevor Story, COL

OUTFIELD:

Bryan Reynolds, PIT

Opposing Starting Pitcher: RHP Tim Melville, COL

The switch-hitting Reynolds has terrorized right-handed pitching for a .346 average, 34 extra-base hits, a .408 wOBA and a .204 ISO. In turn, Rockies right-hander Tim Melville has allowed a .368 wOBA to the 82 left-handed batters he’s faced over his career. What’s more, Reynolds has mashed Melville’s most often thrown pitch against lefty bats, the slider. He owns a .429 wOBA, .412 CXwOBA and robust 55.0 percent hard-contact rate against the pitch.

Reynolds has also been excellent versus the high 80s fastball that’s Melville’s second-most thrown pitch to righty bats, but he’s only faced it over a very small sample. However, it’s worth noting Melville is allowing a .416 wOBA/.442 CXwOBA and .313 ISO on that pitch, along with a 46.7 percent hard-contact rate. And when Melville exits, Reynolds will also be set up for success versus a group of Rockies relievers that have surrendered a 5.40 ERA and .378 wOBA to the 196 batters they’ve faced over the last 10 days.

ALSO CONSIDER: Charlie Blackmon, COL; D.J. Stewart, BAL; Juan Soto, WAS
