Fantasy Football: High stakes FFPC draft pick 5

For reference, here is the DRAFT BOARD

Going into this draft, we were praying for Kelce to fall to us at 5. With the 1.5 PPR scoring for tight ends, he’s a premier draft pick in these leagues. If you read my last draft write up where we had the 7th pick, we had a pretty good idea Kelce wouldn’t come to us there but in this one we thought we had a good shot.

Up to this point, nothing had changed with the Zeke situation so I couldn’t quite convince my guys to gamble with me on taking him and none of us believe strongly in the Cardinals offensive line so David Johnson was also out.

That left us with DeAndre Hopkins who we are happy to have. News broke recently on Laremy Tunsil going to the Texans which actually boosts Hopkins a bit. More time and protection for Watson to stand in the pocket is always good.

This draft was a little weird if you look through it. Gurley at 11 seemed high. I’ve seen him consistently going later in the 2nd round of drafts. I can’t really argue with the pick because I think people are blowing up his knee issue quite a bit.

We weren’t lucky enough to have the same dilemma as our first draft and have to pick between Chubb and Conner in the 2nd round. However, I was thrilled to finally get a share of Dalvin Cook.

It made sense to follow the trend in the third round and continue looking at running backs. We were debating between Aaron Jones, Chris Carson, and Josh Jacobs. We all like Carson but felt this was kind of high and I have a tendency to get obsessed with value.

I struggle to reach on a guy above his average draft position regardless of how much I like him. It’s a flaw I need to address in my drafting strategy. I like Josh Jacobs a lot this year and haven’t drafted him yet but the other two guys weren’t as comfortable with him here.

Given our view on the guys available, Aaron Jones solidified himself as the third pick. He is a good running back in a great offense that will have a lot of opportunity to hit pay dirt.

Our next pick is fine in regards to value and I actually really like him a lot this year. The problem is his position and we let it affect the flow of the rest of the draft moving forward…
