Power ranking all 30 MLB uniforms
2. New York Yankees
The Yankees pinstriped uniforms are among the most easily recognized sports kits in the world. The white home uniforms with blue pinstripes and intertwined NY are essentially unchanged from the franchises origins and have been worn by dozens of the best players in MLB history. Love or hate the Yankees, there is no denying that their jerseys are nearly perfect.
Every other pinstripe jersey and uniform aspires to be as good as the Yankees, and the history of the uniform alone is nearly enough to push it into the number-one spot. Baseball loves its rich history and clings to it more than every other sport, but the Yankees home jerseys hold a special place in baseball lore. So many teams’ uniforms are modeled off the pinstripes and intertwined city letters that the Yankees made famous.
The pinstripes have been a permanent fixture on the Yankees home jerseys since 1915, and the entire home uniform remains unchanged since 1936 — the longest in baseball. The road uniform has gone untouched even longer, since 1918. There was a radical change proposed in the mid 1970s. A conceptual uniform was mocked up that would have flipped the navy-blue pinstripes and white background. Thankfully, those were scrapped.
Every team in the league except the Yankees and Tigers features at least one alternate uniform. For these two teams, there’s no reason to mess with perfection.
