NFL DFS: Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles

Washington Redskins

Without Alex Smith in the picture, Case Keenum was able to beat out rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins for the starting gig week 1. Whether that’s a good or a bad thing for the offense as a whole remains to be seen, but either way there isn’t a ton to love.

The Eagles were a stout front 7 last season, ranking 6th in rush DVOA, which makes it hard to trust the committee of Adrian PetersonChris Thompson, and Derrius Guice out of the gate.

Heading into the season, tight end Jordan Reed was in the midst of his healthiest camp to date until he got smacked with a concussion during the preseason. He’s currently still in the concussion protocol, leading me to believe we’ll see a ton of Vernon Davis against the Eagles. While his cheap price may be appealing, the Eagles allowed the 4th fewest fantasy points per game to tight ends last Eason.

Philadelphia Eagles

Heading into the season fully healthy, the Eagles should be one of the most dangerous teams in the NFC and kick it off with a cake matchup in week 1 and it seems like they’re all relatively under-priced.

Carson Wentz has a heap of red-zone targets at his disposal in Alshon JeffreyZach Ertz, and Nelson Agholor and added DeSean Jackson over the summer. He’s only $5,700 on DraftKings this week and seems like an extremely safe play with that many weapons.

Washington got burned by WR1s last season, ranking 18th in DVOA, compared to 10th against WR2s and 6th against TEs. This makes Alshon Jeffery a nice mid-tier play at $6,700 on FanDuel and $5,900 on DraftKings. Due to Washington’s effectiveness over the middle of the field, I’ll be avoiding Ertz if paying up at the position. Jackson should continue to be a boom-or-bust only option and I’m frankly not willing to go there this week.

I’m a bit hesitant to target Miles Sanders and Jordan Howard until we get a feel of exactly how this backfield will shake out. With that said, Washington was bottom-5 in the league in rush DVOA last season, so if you want to take a stab at one, be my guest.
