Week 1 TEs – DraftKings NFL week 1 low ownership targets

Among the premiere tight ends in the league, Zach Ertz ($6100) seems to be the odd man out in most lineups this weekend. He should still have a decent amount of ownership but will be trumped by the top-2 (Kelce and Kittle) and the cheap options on the slate. I wouldn’t overlook Ertz as a great pivot play against a Redskins defense that was mediocre at best against tight ends last season and a rejuvenated Eagles offense behind Carson Wentz.

Similar to Hunter Henry, Delanie Walker ($3500) returns from an injury-plagued 2018 season and is looking to regain his place among the most consistent TEs in the league. At $3500 and facing a Browns defense that was 5th worst against TEs last season allowing 15.3 DK points per game, Walker is a solid flyer this weekend.

Austin Hooper ($3200) was one of the most targeted TEs in the league last season, ending 4th in receptions per game in 2018. He isn’t a high-yardage tight end but he will certainly bring in a solid amount of receptions and always be a red-zone threat. Despite the Vikings having a strong defense in 2018, they were an average team against TEs last season allowing 10.9 DK points per week.

Rookie T.J. Hockenson ($3100) is one of the most exciting tight ends to be drafted in recent memory after the Lions selected him with the 8th overall pick. Although he has competition at the position and a handful of capable receivers, the Lions may look to test out their new rookie. The only hesitation I have would be the strength of the Cardinals defense against the tight end position, only allowing 8.8 DK points per game.

Other players with low ownership: Greg Olsen, Will Dissly, Vernon Davis

Who Should I Play Out Of The Low Ownership Targets?

Coming off the best year of his career, Zach Ertz will be someone I target in a stack with Carson Wentz on Sunday. I also believe Atlanta and Minnesota will be exchanging touchdowns on Sunday and feel like the savings you get with Austin Hooper make him a no brainer on a slate with a lot of $5000+ options at tight end. With Jordan Reed out on Sunday, I will also have some exposure to Vernon Davis.
