DraftKings Week 1 Showdown: Cheap Options

Jaylen Samuels – $4,800

If the Steelers fall behind by a couple of scores watch for Samuels to get heavily involved in the passing game and potentially steal the slate.

More from DFS

Phillip Dorsett II – $3,800

One of the more reliable receivers returning, Dorsett can easily get you the 10 points needed to pay off his salary having scored in three of his last four games and currently the number three receiver on this team.

Matt LaCosse – $2,800

I am not sure if you heard but Rob Gronkowski retired from football this off-season. Tom Brady is in search of a security blanket and LaCosse could become that as he is the only pass-catching tight end threat on the roster.

DraftKings Week 1 Showdown: Special Teams / Defensive Flex Options

Stephen Gostkowski – $3,400

Chris Boswell – $3,200

In a game that should be low scoring but with two offenses that can move the ball, I am going to incorporate both kickers in this slate.

Patriots – $4,400

Steelers – $3,600

While I do not plan on adding a ton of both defenses in the majority of my builds, I will have a low scoring Defensive stack in what would be a very contrarian play with such a high total of 51.

DraftKings Week 1 Showdown: Game Script Thoughts

After five straight losses to the Patriots, the Steelers finally beat New England Week 15 last season. The Patriots are coming off of another Super Bowl win and look to start a bit faster than their 2-2 record last season. Vegas opened the Patriots as a 6 point favorite with an over of 51.

I am expecting both of these teams defenses to be improved which brings both in play for this showdown slate. As we witnessed on Thursday night football with the Packers and Bears, both teams will likely be a bit sloppy in the season opener. The Steelers added some nice pieces this off-season starting with Devin Bush at middle linebacker, while the Patriots have the best defensive mind in the game.

I would be looking to take the under here as both teams are very familiar with each other and it being the first game of the season. I will go with New England 27 Pittsburgh 21.
