Fantasy Football: Make or break season for 3 quarterbacks
Will Jameis Winston Avoid being a Number One Overall Bust?
The final man on my list goes by the name of Jameis Winston. He like Carr and Mariota has not lived up to the expectations placed upon him when he entered the league back in 2015.

During the 2015 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers went ahead and selected Jameis Winston number one overall. The Buccaneers were hopeful that Winston’s strong arm and athleticism would be a lethal weapon for their offense.
While that is the case at times, Winston is also famous for his high number of turnovers as well. If we were to look at last season alone, Winston was tied with Josh Rosen and Baker Mayfield for the third-most interceptions thrown (14).
He also had thrown the tenth-most interceptable passes in 2018 as well (24). Winston completed the 2018 season as QB22 with an average of 17.8 fantasy points per game in PPR formats. We can attribute some of Winston’s lack of consistent success with the fact that the Buccaneers were continuously rotating between two quarterbacks the entire year with him and Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Now with Fitzpatrick off to Miami, the focus has been centered back on him to be the leader of the offense. There is a reason for optimism as Winston has a great supporting cast of players surrounding him, unlike Carr and Mariota.
He will be throwing the ball to guys like Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and O.J. Howard all season long, giving him plenty of opportunities to have big games.
Furthermore, the Buccaneers brought in a new coach in Bruce Arians who will try and correct some of Winston’s poor decision making over the last several years.
Big things could be to come in 2019 for Winston if he can cut down on the turnovers. We know it has been a bad habit of his throughout his career, but maybe with a new coach showing him the ropes, it can be fixed.
Conversely, maybe it is what it is. Maybe Winston will always be a turnover machine regardless of who is coaching him along the sidelines. It has yet to be determined, but that is why 2019 is considered a make or break season for him.
If he fails to truly be successful this year, then it could very well be Tampa Bay’s time to move on. Hopefully that doesn’t happen for Winston’s sake. It’s always disappointing to see a number one overall draft pick bust, but it does happen from time to time. Only time will tell if Winston can right the ship this year.
