6. Sam Ehlinger, QB, Texas

Despite the fact that the Texas Longhorns suffered a tough loss to LSU in a matchup between top-10 teams, quarterback Sam Ehlinger wasn’t at fault. Yes, he had a lackluster first half but he came out in the final two quarters and kept his team in striking distance. If the defense had been able to make even a couple of stops, the quarterback did enough for his team to pick up the victory.

Ehlinger went 31-of-47 for 401 yards and four touchdowns against a strong Tigers defense while also emerging as Texas’ leading rusher, amassing 60 yards and touchdown on the night. He continues to be a modern-day Tim Tebow that consistently makes big plays and tries to put his team on his back. That will be the narrative throughout 2019 and, as he and the Longhorns surely bounce back, he’ll stay in these rankings.

5. Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama

There was never going to be a doubt about the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 2 as they welcomed New Mexico State to Tuscaloosa. While that may be so, the stars for Nick Saban’s team stepped up in a big way. Among those stars is wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, who submitted another highly impressive individual performance after dominating against Duke in the season-opener last week.

Jeudy burned the Aggies on Saturday afternoon for eight catches, 103 yards and three touchdowns, making things look all too easy. The Bama wideout now has 18 catches for 240 yards and four touchdowns in his first two games of the season. There are few players in the country with a chance of containing Jeudy and, with the Tide’s high-powered offense, he’s going to put up these big numbers throughout the year.
