Yahoo NFL – Daily Fantasy Football: Week One Picks
By Raju Byfield
Chris Godwin ($20 Salary)
In a contest with one of the highest over/under totals of the day Chris Godwin appears to be in line for a monster outing. The 49ers made some major upgrades to their front seven in the form of Dee Ford and Kwon Alexander, but still look susceptible in the secondary across from Richard Sherman.
Chris Godwin, who is expected to spend a lot of his snaps in the slot this Sunday, will square off against K’Wuan Williams. According to playerprofiler K’Waun allowed a 108.8 passer rating against and 8.4 yards per target in 2018.
With a one point spread, this contest is expected to be highly contested. This is a good thing as neither team will be able to lean on the run. The Buccaneers have an embarrassing lack of talent in their backfield and may look to manufacture short touches for both Evans and Godwin as an extension of the run game. 20th in air yards and 26th in receiving yards despite a 67.7 percent snap share that ranked 82nd in the league, Chris Godwin appears primed to truly explode with a full time role.
Julian Edelman ($19 Salary)
Julian Edelman will be leaned on in week one as Tom Brady’s most trusted target. Prized first round rookie N’Keal Harry is on IR, Demaryius Thomas is dealing with hamstring issues, and Jakobi Meyers is an undrafted rookie about to play in his first NFL game. Someone named Matt LaCosse is the Patriots top tight end. Antonio Brown will not be available yet.
Josh Gordon, back in the NFL after a long layoff, and annual disappointment Phillip Dorsett are Brady’s other top receivers. Edelman had a solid seven reception, 90 yard outing against the Pittsburgh Steelers last season in a low scoring affair. In a game with one of the highest totals of the weekend, the scoring should be plentiful enough to keep Julian Edelman heavily involved out of the slot. A double digit fantasy outing seems to be all but a certainty.
Julio Jones ($29 Salary)
With a record breaking contract extension in tow, Julio Jones looks set to explode in a contest the Atlanta Falcons are betting underdogs in. He will have a tough test with Xavier Rhodes, but appears destined for a high volume afternoon.
Dirk Koetter is a more aggressive play caller than Steve Sarkasian and should force Matt Ryan to keep the incredible Julio Jones involved throughout the contest. The projected gamescript suggests that the Falcons will not be able to lean on the run and may be forced to air it out.
There are a number of pass catching options on the Falcons roster, but as you well know none come close to the game breaking talent of Julio Jones. Julio averaged over 100 receiving yards per game for the fifth time in six seasons in 2018, and looks set to surpass the triple digit barrier once again in week one.
