PGA power rankings: A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier

***The following golfers are my top 15 overall. Following each golfer will be a number in parenthesis, which represents their current ranking in the OWGR.***

15. Robert Streb – (206)

The PGA power rankings will begin with 32-year-old veteran Robert Streb to start the 2019-2020 PGA Tour season. He will make his sixth appearance here at The Old White TPC for The Greenbrier, and his history here is among the best in the field. Streb finished runner-up here in both 2015 and 2017, and just missed another top-10 last year when he T-11 at 10-under par.

His form is not the best coming in as he has missed three cuts in his last six events, but he T-3 at the Barracuda Championship back in late July, and he did compete in the Korn Ferry Tour playoffs as well. Streb T-5 at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, and followed it with a T-30 at the Boise Open.

14. Scottie Scheffler – (87)

You may not have heard of Scheffler quite yet, but the 23-year-old from Dallas had a very strong season last year on the Korn Ferry Tour. With the way he played down the stretch in the KFT playoffs he looks like he is ready to contend in a weaker PGA field even such as this week. He notched eight top-tens in a span of 18 events leading into the playoffs, which included a win at the end of May at the Evans Scholars Invitational.

Scheffler then grabbed his second win of the year at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship and rounded out the playoffs with a T-11 at the Boise Open, and a T-7 at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship. The fact that he worked his way into the top 100 in the OWGR is pretty impressive despite playing on the lesser tour. This will be his first appearance at A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.

13. Brian Harman – (100)

Harman has not been great here at The Old White TPC, and while he was more down than up last season as well, he was not playing too bad down the stretch. He worked his way into the FedEx Cup playoffs with three top-tens in a span of six events that started with a T-8 at the Travelers Championship and ended with a T-6 at the Wyndham Championship. Despite the valiant effort, Harman finished T-52 at the Northern Trust to end his season. This will be Harman’s fifth Greenbrier in the last ten years, and his best finish was last season when he T-56 at 2-under par.

12. Keegan Bradley – (39)

The hardest player to predict in golf Keegan Bradley comes in at number 12 this week, and while he is not falling in the OWGR as fast as Harman is, it is worth noting that Bradley has just two top-tens going back to January. The 2018 BMW Championship champion did not have the run he had in the FedEx Cup playoffs this season like he did last year either.

Bradley T-64 at the Northern Trust and snuck into the field at the BMW Championship, but a T-43 finish ultimately put an end to his season. While his form has been better, he is a regular here at The Old White TPC and the Military Tribute at The Greenbrier, and he has never missed a cut.

In total, Bradley has teed it up six times here in the last ten years, and while he has just one top-ten which came in the form of a T-4 in 2014, he just missed his second last year. He ended up finishing 9-under par after a 70 on Sunday, one of many examples of Bradley going “Full Keegan” last season. Even after an opening-round 65, the Sunday 70 led to a T-13 finish.

11. Cameron Smith – (45)

It was two years ago that Cam Smith notched back-to-back T-3 in the FedEx Cup playoffs at the Northern Trust and the Dell Technologies Championship, but this year was a different story. Smith barely qualified for the playoffs and suffered an early exit with his T-59 at the Northern Trust.

Despite struggling most of the spring and summer, Smith did have a solid run in July that included a T-20 at the Open Championship, and a T-12 at the FedEx St. Jude Invitational. The 26-year-old was in the mix heading into Sunday at Royal Portrush, but a 76 the final day led to a T-20 finish. This will be the Australians first Military Tribute at The Greenbrier.
