DFS advice: Week 2 start/sit
DFS Advice: Quarterbacks to Start
Lamar Jackson (BAL) vs. ARI
I don’t think this will come as much of a shock to anyone considering the type of day Jackson had against the Miami Dolphins this past Sunday. To quickly summarize he went 17 for 20 on 324 yards five touchdown passes and no interceptions in Baltimore’s route over Miami by a score of 59-10.
Jackson is a must-start for Week 2 as the Ravens will host the Arizona Cardinals in their home opener. While it was just one game, the Cardinals did surrender the fifth-most fantasy points to a quarterback (27.6) in Sunday’s slate of games. If Jackson can continue to throw as he did against Miami, he will be found in just about everyone’s starting lineups very soon.
Josh Allen (BUF) @ NYG
Despite throwing two picks against the Jets this past Sunday, Allen remains on my must-start list mainly due to his match-up for this week. I feel bad picking on the Giants like this but their defense was not good at all as Dak Prescott had a field-day against them, throwing for just over 400 yards and four touchdowns Sunday.
Allen is still developing and has a lot of potential to be something special in Up-State New York. His late fourth-quarter game-winning drive demonstrated that, as he went 5 for 7 and capped it off with a 38-yard touchdown pass to John Brown to give the Bills a 17-16 lead.
Allen concluded the day with 16.0 fantasy points which isn’t all that bad considering he struggled for most of the afternoon. Now that he is playing a much weaker defense in Week 2, he should be able to shine in his 2019-encore at Metlife stadium.
Carson Wentz (PHI) @ ATL
After getting off to a slow start in Week 1 against the Redskins, Wentz got it together as he nearly completed 72.0% of his passes for 313 yards, three touchdowns, and no picks. He finished Week 1 as QB8 and appears to have found a new weapon in DeSean Jackson.
On top of that, he has Alshon Jeffery and his favorite target in Zach Ertz to continue throwing dimes to in critical moments down the field. Last year, the Falcons allowed the most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks (21.2) and the seventh-most passing yards as well (4,372).
While the Falcons managed to keep down Kirk Cousins through the air in Week 1, the Eagles are more of a pass-first type of team. With that being said, Wentz is poised to once again have a big week in Week 2 as the Eagles travel to face the Falcons in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome at Atlanta.
Tom Brady (NE) @ MIA
I know it seems surprising to put arguably the greatest quarterback of all time on this list but hear me out. In 2018, Brady finished as QB14, averaging about 17.5 fantasy points per game.
Many people were unimpressed with Brady’s play causing his fantasy-draft-stock to take quite a bit of a hit in the process. On Sunday night against the Steelers though, Brady went pass-heavy completing 24 out of 36 passes for 341 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.
The Patriots have a loaded wide receiver artillery with weapons like Julian Edelman, Josh Gordon, and newly acquired Antonio Brown from the Oakland Raiders. Finally, Brady has a juicy match-up against a division rival in the Miami Dolphins this week.
While the Dolphins have typically given Brady fits in their games in the past, their defense appears to be very porous, to say the least in Week 1 against the Ravens. With so many factors favoring Brady this week, it’s hard to not ignore starting him in your lineup.
Honorable Mentions: Dak Prescott @ WSH, Patrick Mahomes @ OAK, Drew Brees @ LAR, Derek Carr vs. KC
