DFS Advice: Wide Receivers to Sit

Tyler Lockett (SEA) @ PIT

Despite Pittsburgh’s secondary not having done anything special to speak of in Week 1 against New England, Lockett is a player I advise to try and avoid starting this week. The Seahawks receiving game wasn’t impressive against a weak Bengals’ secondary as their leading receiver was rookie D.K. Metcalf with 89 yards.

Yes, Lockett did score a touchdown but that was pretty much it. Quarterback Russell Wilson threw the ball only 20 times with Lockett having just two of those passes come his way the entire game.

The Seahawks have an identity, and that is to run the ball first with Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny. Passing comes second. That’s fine and all from a football perspective, but when it comes to fantasy, it doesn’t help Lockett’s value. I’d stray away for a little bit until I see more from Seattle’s projected top receiver.

Stefon Diggs (MIN) @ GB

Don’t get me wrong, Stefon Diggs is a great receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, but his recent usage and match-up are a cause for some concern. Did you know that Vikings’ quarterback Kirk Cousins just threw the ball 10 times against an Atlanta secondary that allowed the seventh-most receiving yards to wide-outs in 2018?

Instead, the Vikings decided to win the game on the ground, feeding Dalvin Cook the ball 21 times.

On top of that, the Vikings will be visiting the Packers this Sunday and their passing defense looked much improved against the Bears last Thursday night.

It may behoove the Vikings to commit to the run once again against their rivals of the North if they are to come out victorious in this one. With that said, maybe Diggs is a borderline sit candidate for just this week.

Emmanuel Sanders (DEN) vs. CHI

Even though he’s coming off an impressive performance against the Oakland Raiders this past Monday night (five catches for 86 yards and a touchdown), Sanders should be a player you avoid starting this week.

The Broncos will be hosting a hostile Bears defense who stifled an explosive Packers pass-attack last Thursday evening. Also, Denver intends on utilizing Courtland Sutton as their primary go-to target in 2019. While Sanders did earn seven targets from quarterback Joe Flacco against Oakland, Sutton received eight.

An almost even-split in attention being given from their quarterback. I expect the Broncos to lean more on Sutton as the season wears on, especially if he continues to produce as he did in Week 1. With that said, Sanders could start to fade from the picture in the weeks to come.
