DFS Advice: Tight Ends to Start

T.J. Hockenson (DET) vs. LAC

After this past Sunday’s rookie-debut performance it’s hard to ignore starting T.J. Hockenson this week. He was tied with Kenny Golladay for the second-most receptions on the Lions’ receiving corps against the Cardinals Sunday (nine) and converted six of them for 131 yards and a score.

The eight-overall pick of the 2019 draft sure looks like a fine fantasy TE option heading into Week 2 as the Lions host the Los Angeles Chargers in their home-opener.

The Chargers’ defense is banged up with injuries all over the place, most notably with Derwin James out for a significant amount of time. Hockenson and quarterback Matthew Stafford will look to exploit this weakness during their first home game of the 2019 regular season.

Darren Waller (OAK) vs. KC

Waller impressed many with his performance against the Denver Broncos Monday night as he saw eight targets for seven catches and 70 receiving yards. He proved he can be a reliable asset for Derek Carr which is crucial especially now with the Raiders having a fallout with Antonio Brown.

The Kansas City Chiefs were a top-three defense in terms of most receiving yards allowed to tight ends in 2018. If the Raiders are to try and keep up with Kansas City’s high-octane offense on Sunday, then Waller could be a major component in that equation.

Delanie Walker (TEN) vs. IND

Just when I thought we were done with Delanie Walker he becomes relevant once again. 2018 looked like the beginning of the end for him, but Sunday proved he can still be useful in a Titans’ offense with not many other dependable receiving options.

In Sunday’s route over the Browns, Walker had, count them two touchdowns. He will be taking on a Colts’ defense that surrendered the most receiving yards to tight ends in 2018. Walker appears to be in line for another solid fantasy week if you are looking for a serviceable tight end.
