DFS Advice: Tight Ends to Sit

O.J. Howard (TB) @ CAR

A projected top-five fantasy tight end came out flat in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers. Most of Howard’s struggles were not his fault, but rather it was his quarterback Jameis Winston. Winston’s terrible decision-making throughout the game against the 49ers cost the Bucs dearly.

No one in the receiving department had a fantasy-relevant day except for Chris Godwin. Howard failed to find any kind of rhythm with Winston, having four catches for 32 yards and no scores.

To add insult to injury, Howard and the Bucs will be visiting the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night who allowed the seventh-least amount of fantasy points per game to tight ends in 2018 (16.3).

Jimmy Graham (GB) vs. MIN

While it was encouraging to see Graham score the lone touchdown for the Packers in Thursday night’s win over the Bears, Graham is a tight end in fantasy to keep your distance from this week. Besides the touchdown scored, Graham didn’t do much else, as he had 30 yards on three catches.

Had it not been for his touchdown, he would’ve had a very forgettable showing. The Minnesota Vikings are coming to town and even though their stout defense struggled against Austin Hooper last week, they will look to bounce back by sucking the life out of a talented Packers’ offense in the early stages of the game. I’m not expecting much from Graham heading into Week 2.

Eric Ebron (IND) @ TEN

It was bound to happen. Eric Ebron’s production from 2018 wasn’t something you could always depend on for fantasy. The Colts’ offense looked good even without star quarterback Andrew Luck at the helm.

Unfortunately, Ebron wasn’t a contributor to Indianapolis’ success as he just caught one pass for eight yards. He was almost non-existent in the Colts’ passing attack just receiving three targets from Jacoby Brissett. The Colts will be visiting a Titans’ defense that was very strong guarding tight ends on a weekly basis last year.

Do not let Ebron’s high-number of touchdown receptions from a year ago fool you. He was bound to regress especially with Luck not being around to throw him passes in the red zone.
