DraftKings showdown slate: Week 2 Panthers vs Buccaneers

Each week I will be breaking down the DraftKings showdown slates on Monday, Thursday and Sunday night football. The DraftKings showdown slate is one of the more unique game styles that you can pick from on DraftKings.

When playing a showdown lineup you will notice that it is far different from a standard DraftKings contest. Instead of selecting a full roster of position players you have a Captain slot paired with five flex positions.

The player you select as your Captain will score 1.5x the standard fantasy point value for each statistic but drafting a player as the Captain will cost you more salary than using them in your flex position. The DraftKings showdown slate will consist of the same scoring as all other contests not counting the Captain bonus.

Some numbers to keep in mind when building lineups for your showdown slates. Last season the winning lineup had a running back or wide receiver in the Captain slot 71% of the time on the largest prize pool showdown contests.

All Captain selections are major flex considerations

DraftKings showdown slate: Captain

Christian McCaffrey – $18,600

The highest-priced player on the slate and likely the highest owned Captain is Christian McCaffrey. Last week McCaffrey got 30 touches which lead to his 45.9 fantasy point explosion against the Rams.

He is going to get 15+ carries and roughly 7-10 targets in the passing game making him a must-own on the slate. Crazy things can happen though in a one-game sample, so don’t be afraid to fade him on a couple of lineups as you would have a ton of leverage on the field.

Cam Newton – $16,500

After an abysmal performance against the Rams, I am looking for a big bounce-back spot from Cam Thursday night.

You should be able to leverage the field with his Captain ownership, as most will be on McCaffrey in what is a great spot for this Panthers offense. In his two games against the Buccaneers last season, Winston threw for 547 yards and four touchdowns while adding 66 yards on the ground.

Chris Godwin – $12,900

If I am starting a contrarian build, I want to use Godwin as my Captain. Slot receivers torched the Panthers last year as you might recall the 8 catch 82 yard two-touchdown game last season from Adam Humphries.

Well, it wasn’t a fluke as Humphries caught 7 for 61 and another score in-game two. This was also part of Godwin’s coming out party down the stretch as he caught 5 for 101 and a score against the Panthers in Week 13.

Other Captain options to differentiate your lineups and give you a chance at the 250k top prize.

Curtis Samuel – $10,500

Last week Samuel saw 93% of the teams snaps against the Rams. He was the talk of camp by all beat reporters for a reason and against a defense that is beatable through the air, I want to take a couple of shots at this receiving corp. I will go with the cheaper Samuel in hopes that he breaks a big one or scores via the ground as he did last season.

Greg Olsen – $9,300

In order to play as many of the high-end options that you can, plugging Olsen into your Captain spot in a couple of lineups giving you massive leverage against the field. In what was his only healthy game against the Buccaneers last season, Olsen caught 6 passes for 76 yards and one score as he led the Panthers in targets.

The Buccaneers are awful in coverage against tight ends as George Kittle had two touchdowns called back last week while still catching 8 balls for 54 yards. If Olsen can find the end-zone a couple of times, he will absolutely be part of the winning build tomorrow night in what is my HIGH RISK PLAY.
