Here are some defenses worth streaming that are widely available that could put up big numbers If your fantasy football defense has a bad matchup for Week 2.

Finding a consistent defense for your fantasy football team is becoming harder each season. With the league’s scoring going up year after year, the tier of elite defenses is shrinking. There are still a few defenses that you will never bench, but you would have had to spend a mid-round pick on them.

If you didn’t want to draft a defense in Round 9 or 10, you likely waited until your second-to-last pick for your defense while you built up your bench. As a result, your defense either doesn’t have a consistent track record, has bad matchups throughout the season or already dropped the ball in its first week.

If your defense falls into the latter category, there are a few defenses available for you to add in Week 2 that have good matchups. In one of my leagues, I knew I was going to play the matchup game throughout the season. Whether you play in a 10 or 12-team league, most owners have just one defense on their team, leaving 20 or 22 for you to choose from.

Here are just three that meet that criteria.

NYJ, vs. CLE

While the Jets defense gave up a 16-point lead to the Bills, those were the only points allowed. They also recorded two interceptions (returned one for a touchdown), two fumble recoveries, one sack, and a safety.

The Browns did not look good in Week 1. While many expect them to right the ship on Monday night, I don’t think they’ll make that much of an improvement to avoid using the Jets defense.

Baker Mayfield is a solid passer but the offensive line didn’t do him any favors. The Jets defense should be able to pick up another turnover or two.

CAR, vs. TB

The Bucs were unable to get anything going against the 49ers in Week 1. The Panthers defense couldn’t stop the Rams offense. One of these will improve this week and I think it’s the Carolina defense.

The Panthers don’t have the best defense so you wouldn’t use them against the top offenses. However, they should be able to force a turnover or two against Jameis Winston, whether that be an interception or fumble.

The Bucs running game is a committee so the Panthers can focus on the passing game more. The familiarize between the two teams also helps their production.

NYG vs. BUF

The second New Jersey (yes, they play in NJ) defense on my list takes on the only football team from New York. They allowed 35 points and 494 total yards to the Cowboys in Week 1. Luckily, the Bills are not the Cowboys.

The Bills struggles for most of the game against the Jets (see above). They don’t have the same offense as Dallas. Frank Gore and Devin Singletary do not equal one Ezekiel Jackson. The Bills receiving corps is nowhere near what Dallas has.

The Giants should have more success limiting yardage and scoring and may even force a turnover.

Next. Fantasy football 2019: Week 2 waiver wire adds. dark

I don’t like to use a waiver claim on defense because they will likely be available before Sunday unless it’s a defense with a great schedule and huge Week 1 output. The defense pool is deep enough for you to add one each week. Maybe one of these will last longer if they have a good Week 2. Thanks for stopping by FanSided Fantasy!
