18. San Francisco Giants, 70-75, 3rd in the NL West (ranked 17th last week)

The Giants are still technically in the hunt for the final NL Wild Card spot, but sitting 8.5 games back of the Cubs with the Brewers, Diamondbacks, Phillies, and Mets all in front of them, San Francisco isn’t expected to stay in the hunt much longer. However, it was very cool to see Johnny Cueto return to the mound Tuesday night after recovering from Tommy John surgery all season.

Losers of six of their last 10 games, they still managed to take two of three from the Dodgers, who clinched the NL West this week. The Giants pitching has been solid all season but their offense is relying heavily on guys like OF Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Slater. Giants might look a lot different after this season.

17. Texas Rangers, 72-74, 3rd in the AL West (ranked 18th last week)

The Rangers have managed to win six of their last 10 games, but now have to finish the season facing teams only with winning records. They just finished up a four-game weekend sweep of the Orioles but now have to face the Rays, Oakland, and then Houston before finishing the season against Boston and New York.

The Rangers held on to their main trade pieces like Mike Minor and Lance Lynn at the deadline, and with Texas opening a brand new stadium for next season, expect GM Jon Daniels to be aggressive in adding a star player this off-season. But the Rangers do have some promising talent to watch on the roster now in DH Nick Solak who’s 21 hits and .949 OPS in 19 games is impressing folks in Arlington.
