There’s one sports record Kevin Harvick is positive no one will ever break.

There will always be a thrill in the chase, sometimes literally.

Sports records are meant to be broken but some have become legendary for being seemingly insurmountable. Joe DiMaggio’s 57-game hit streak, Cal Ripken’s consecutive games streak, Wayne Gretzky’s all-time scoring total, and Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game are all on the Mout Rushmore of sports records we would be baffled to ever see happen again.

Richard Petty’s 200 wins is a NASCAR record that stands alongside all of those.

To put into perspective just how mind-blowing this record is, there’s a 95-win difference between Petty and David Pearson in second-place. Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. — widely regarded as two of the best drivers of all-time — don’t even have 200 wins combined between them.

“I don’t think anyone’s ever getting to [200 wins],” NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick told FanSided’s Mark Carman. “Richard is way out there.”

It also says a lot about a record and the legend who holds it that there’s not even a discussion about being caught.

Harvick, who is promoting the Mobil 1 250K Mile Slot Machine in Vegas where fans can insert conventional bottles of motor oil into a slot machine to upgrade to synthetic motor oil and win prizes, has 48 wins in his career. He sits tied with Herb Thomas and is just two wins shy of surpassing Tony Stewart.

As far as Harvick is concerned, the chase is for Pearson’s second-place total.

“The only guy who probably has the most legitimate chance to surpass all of that is Kyle Busch.”

That’s an incredible endorsement of Busch. While he may never come close to Petty’s record, the fact that we may be watching a driver who could become the second-greatest of all-time is exciting.

All of those big-time NASCAR names and none of them come close to touching what Petty managed to do.
