EPL DFS Value Defenders

Ryan Bennett (Chelsea @ Wolverhampton, $12) – Unlike most weeks, there are actually a good number of value defenders worthy of consideration.  Bennett has gone over his $12 price tag in three games so far, mostly by getting several different defensive stats.  I have a feeling that this game is played very openly which is always good for players relying on peripherals.  Chelsea hasn’t been the best in the attack either, so a clean sheet is a possibility as well.

Caglar Soyuncu (Leicester @ Manchester United, $12) – I’m going to keep coming back to Soyuncu as a value defender until he stops playing well or until FanDuel raises his price.  The youngster keeps churning out double-digit fantasy performance for cheap, and that’s all I can ask.  I think Soyuncu ends this game closer to his ceiling at low ownership.  He’s a great way to save some salary.

Dan Burn (Burnley @ Brighton, $12) – Burnley have allowed 2nd most clearances to their opposing defenders this season, which is a reason to recommend Brighton defenders.  Lewis Dunk ($16) and Shane Duffy ($14) have not been useful for fantasy yet this season, so I’m hopping down to Burn.  He started off the season with two 15+ games but fell off since.  I expect him to be back up to the mid-upper teens with a good amount of clearances on Saturday.  A clean sheet isn’t out of the question either.

Joel Ward ($12) and Gary Cahill ($10) (Crystal Palace @ Tottenham) – These are two of my favorite value plays on the slate.  Tottenham give up the most clearances to their opponents and Ward and Cahill get the majority of their fantasy value from clearances.  Cahill is averaging seven clearances per game this season, and he can easily meet that average in this matchup.  Cahill mostly relies on clearances only, but Ward will get you some clearances and a handful of other defensive peripherals.  Both are viable salary savers in all formats.
