Fantasy football lineup advice – Quarterback

BOOM:

Matt Ryan, ATL vs. PHI

In a tough Week 1 match-up with the Vikings, Ryan struggled, as expected, but managed to salvage his day with two garbage-time touchdowns, ending the game with 18.6 fantasy points.

His poor first-half showing wasn’t entirely his fault as the team couldn’t get anything going behind an o-line that struggled throughout. The Falcons were down in a 21-0 hole early, paving Ryan’s way to increased volume.

He’s got a shot to rebound nicely against the Eagles, who just surrendered 380 yards and 3 passing TDs to Redskins’ QB Case Keenum (27.2 points) in the season-opener. This performance (or lack thereof) wasn’t a fluke, as Philly ranked in the bottom-10 of the league last season against quarterbacks. Feel safe to lock Ryan into your lineups as one of the best gunslingers in fantasy this week.

BUST:

Russell Wilson, SEA @ PIT

Throwing only 21 passes in Week 1 (seven of which were check-downs to RB Chris Carson), Wilson predictably led a run-heavy offensive approach, lacking volume in the passing game.

While he was efficient (completing 70 percent of his passes), he threw for just 196 yards, ending his day with 16.6 fantasy points. His normal rushing production wasn’t there either (four rushes for eight yards), leading to a sub-par performance from the five-time Pro-Bowler.

His Week 2 opponent, the Pittsburgh Steelers, were eviscerated last week by Tom Brady in Foxborough, but this defensive-back unit isn’t as bad as they showed on Sunday Night Football.

In 2018, they allowed QBs just 17.8 FPPG (15th-best in the NFL) and while this may not be an eye-popping number, this is a team that’ll be hungry for vengeance after being embarrassed on national TV last week. Pair this with HC Pete Carroll‘s determination to pound the rock, and Wilson could end up with the short end of the stick in his first road matchup of the season.

Sleeper:

Andy Dalton, CIN vs. SF

Dalton was impressive in his season debut, posting a career-high 418 passing yards against the Seahawks in Seattle. In his first home matchup of the year, he’ll draw the 49ers, a secondary that was better than advertised in Week 1 (9th-worst against QBs in 2018).

But then again, they were going against Jameis Winston… Given Dalton’s momentum and hot start, he’s a sneaky play this week for owners in desperation.
