Fantasy football lineup advice: Week 2 BOOM or BUST
Fantasy football lineup advice – Tight End
BOOM:
Darren Waller, OAK vs. KC
The second Oakland Raider to be selected as a “BOOM” pick this week, Waller was one of the more pleasant Week 1 surprises in fantasy.
A fourth-year tight end that’s now finally getting his shot following Jared Cook‘s departure, the 6-foot-6 Georgia Tech alum impressed by reeling-in seven of his eight targets for 70 yards. He looked like a true focal point of HC Jon Gruden‘s offense, boding well for his future outlook.

More importantly, there’s plenty of targets now up for grabs after Antonio Brown was cut this past weekend.
An encore performance could be in-store for Waller this week against the Chiefs, who surrendered the most fantasy points per game to TEs in the league last season.
BUST:
T.J. Hockenson, DET vs. LAC
Darren Waller was impressive last week, he’s got nothing on Lions’ rookie TE T.J. Hockenson. Hockenson not only surpassed the 100-yard mark in his first-ever NFL game, but also broke the record of most receiving yards by a tight end in his debut, finishing with 6 catches for 131 and a touchdown. So much for rookie tight ends being unproductive…
Slow down there. While Hockenson looks like an exception to the unwritten rule, he put up these huge numbers against a watered-down Cardinals secondary that was missing both starting corners, Patrick Peterson and Robert Alford. He’ll have a much tougher test in Week 2 against the Chargers, who allowed under nine fantasy points per game in 2018 to TEs and gave up just 3 receptions for 31 yards to Colts’ TEs in Week 1.
Sleeper:
Vance McDonald, PIT vs. SEA
McDonald had a rough go-around in Week 1 against the Patriots (6 fantasy points), but much of this had to do with the Steelers’ offense a whole, which looked completely out-of-sync the entire game.
Look for Big Ben and co. to right the ship this week against Seattle, who allowed Cincinnati’s tight-end duo to combine for almost 100 yards in the opener. McDonald should still be a top target for Big Ben and the Steelers, who still have to replace 168 targets from last season after trading AB.
