MLB DFS – Building Our Bats

Writing up Gerrit Cole and Max Scherzer is the easy part, being able to sell you on the stack that makes it work – well, this is why I get paid the big bucks.

More from DFS

If you look simply at the Vegas implied run totals (IRT) tonight, you will see lofty 6+ numbers for the Rockies/Padres as expected and of course the Yankees and Astros are sitting there as well but what if I told you there was a team with the 7th highest IRT of the 26 teams on this slate, sitting at 5.1 as of this writing and was dirt cheap?

Now, what if I also told you that they will face a pitcher with a 5.3 xFIP who is surrendering a .230+ ISO to hitters from both sides of the plate and behind him happens to be the worst bullpen in all of baseball? In fact, no relief staff in baseball has given up more runs or more HR’s than this opponent here tonight.

Now, what if I told you that you had to put your hard-earned American dollars (or currency of your choosing) on a Detroit Tigers stack against the Baltimore Orioles tonight?

I assume at this point, you closed your browser and have removed FanSided Fantasy from your bookmark list but if you are still here, welcome to late-season MLB DFS my friends where nothing is off limits!

The reality is, you are not going to look at the Tigers stack tonight and think, wow, look at all these ISO’s well under .200 – I cannot wait to play them. The rationale for the stack here is very simple – it allows you go to Cole/Max and you are betting against Aaron Brooks and the Orioles pen – that is it, end of the analysis.

Brooks has given up 1.8 HR/9 to RHB this season and 2.4 HR/9 to LHB in 2019 and you can go 1-6 in the Tigers lineup with a full-on 6 man stack without having to cut corners salary-wise at all.

Do you feel good about it knowing everyone else is rocking Coors Field? Of course not – but this is the kind of low owned stack in a build that just by its nature will be contrarian. At this point in the year the chalk becomes even chalkier – we saw that last night with Tyler Mahle at 60% ownership in GPP’s so do not be afraid to be different and take shots while everyone else stacks the Padres tonight.

Good luck all – and for those of you who stopped reading when I led with a Tigers stack, well you didn’t get my good luck – so THERE!
