8. Ian Book, QB, Notre Dame

On the whole, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish were not all that impressive in Week 1 as they beat Louisville. Quarterback Ian Book was a part of that as he went just 14-of-23 for 193 yards and one touchdown, even if he added 81 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. That wasn’t enough to push him into the Heisman conversation but his monster outing against New Mexico after a week off was.

Against the much lesser Lobos, Book was downright moving the ball at will. The Fighting Irish quarterback accrued 360 passing yards on a 15-of-24 showing with five touchdowns while also adding another rushing touchdown to his credit. In just two games now, Book has six passing scores and two touchdowns with his legs. That’s phenomenal and, if he has his head right after a lowly Week 1, he’s only going to better his numbers moving forward. Playing Georgia in Week 4 will help us figure out just how viable he is, though.

7. J.K. Dobbins, RB, Ohio State

In the first two weeks of the 2019 season, I’ve kept Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins out of these rankings. He’s been incredible but, given the lack of overall workload and against sub-par competition, I just wanted to see a bit more from the running back before getting him in the mix. He showed exactly that on Saturday as the Buckeyes trounced the Indiana Hoosiers.

Dobbins was virtually unstoppable when he got the rock on Saturday in Week 3, taking 22 carries for 193 yards and a touchdown while also catching two passes for 14 yards and another touchdown. The junior running back now has 60 carries for 425 yards and four touchdowns on the season to go with his receiving touchdown as well. He’s been quite good to this point and that doesn’t figure to stop moving forward.
