MLB DFS picks and pivots September 16
MLB DFS – Building our bats:
I have to say, while pitching seems relatively straight forward, picking where you want to plant your flag with bats seems way more of a challenge which is odd considering we have 4 teams with 6+ implied run totals.

The obvious chalk is going to be my New York Mets in Colorado against Anthony Senzatela and while this Mets team has tee match-up that could result in a big offensive night, my skeptical Mets brain has some serious concerns. The Mets finished their game against the Dodgers on Sunday Night Baseball at 10:30 PM EST, and likely did not get their heads onto their hotel pillows until 5-6AM EST and now will be asked to turn around and play in the altitude of Coors Field just hours later.
The fact we have such a small slate here tonight leads me to think that Coors will be chalkier than normal and what I am noticing in late season MLB DFS, is that the chalk is getting even more so the later we go. Listen, every time I count the Mets out this season they respond and make another push so maybe that trend continues tonight and they put up a big crooked number offensively, but with other pivot offenses, I may take my chances fading a tired chalk set of bats.
The Minnesota Twins have a 6+ IRT, toe to toe with the Rockies and a shade behind the A’s as of this writing but with a meeting on tap with RHP Reynaldo Lopez and the Sox pen, this could be another Minnesota offensive barrage this evening.
Lopez is giving up a .200+ ISO mark to hitters from both sides of the plate with a 1.6+ HR/9 rate and a 5+ ERA to match. This Twins lineup is loaded with power, with a projected lineup that has a .233 ISO and 43% HC rate against RHP this season, and has 6 batters with .200+ ISO marks individually against RHP.
A full on 6 man stack of that power including Max Kepler, Jorge Polanco, Nelson Cruz, Eddie Rosario, Mitch Garver and Miguel Sano is priced similarly to the Mets bats with every bit the same upside at a likely fraction of the ownership. Lopez has faced this Twins lineup now twice in 2019 and has surrendered 15 runs and 5 HR’s in only 9.2 innings of work, so it is safe to say this is an exploitable spot.
Best of luck here tonight in your MLB DFS lineups – pay attention to the buzz as with this being such a small slate, I think game theory and ownership is as important if not more than simply nailing the right plays.
