1. A high draft pick isn’t a disaster

No one inside the Steelers organization is anywhere close to tanking or anything of the like. Even so, it must be said that losing enough games to garner a high draft pick might turn out to be a positive in the long run for the Steelers.

If Pittsburgh does go on a protracted losing streak, it likely means that Rudolph is not their quarterback of their future. Even if Roethlisberger projects to come back healthy in 2019, the franchise would be foolish not to explore the idea of spending a high draft choice on a new franchise quarterback. That might not sit well with Roethlisberger, but there’s a reason he isn’t a member of the team’s front office.

It also must be noted that the Steelers have lost several high-end talents lately. Letting Le’Veon Bell walk and trading Antonio Brown were both perfectly defensible moves by the front office, but it did reduce the talent on the roster. Getting a high first round pick and a high pick in Round 2 would give the Steelers two massive opportunities to find difference makers through the draft.

Pittsburgh fans must remember that mediocrity is the worst place to reside in the NFL. Going 6-10 with Rudolph at the helm is the team’s worst outcome. Going 3-13 at least allows them to set up a massive talent infusion ahead of the 2019 campaign. There are multiple ways that Roethlisberger’s injury can help Pittsburgh over the long haul.
