UCL DFS Value Defenders

Kalidou Koulibaly (Liverpool @ Napoli, $10) – This is just flat out too cheap.  Koulibaly is one of the best defenders on this slate at getting defensive peripherals and he has a good matchup against Livepool.  He’s averaging over three clearances and tackles per game each to go along with two interceptions per game.  He should well outscore his price tag, so if you need a cheap defender he should be near the top of your list.

Jose Gaya (Valencia @ Chelsea, $8) – If you’ve read some of my soccer breakdowns before, you know that I like defenders on underdog teams.  Chelsea should control this game at home in the attacking end, giving guys like Gaya and Jaume Costa ($8) tons of opportunities to get defensive peripheral stats.  They almost surely won’t come away with a clean sheet, but they don’t need many defensive peripherals to pay off.  My opinion on this slate is that it’s the forwards/midfielders that will win money for you, so you’ll need cheap defenders to get those attacking studs.  Ezequiel Garay ($15) is a good play but save the money and go with Gaya or Costa.

Jose Fonte (Lille @ Ajax, $10) – Continuing with the same theme here with more defenders on underdog teams.  Fonte’s fantasy value relies heavily on clearances (4.8/game).  Lille should be under siege most of this game so Fonte can really rack up the clearances.  He’s cheap enough to help you get your studs and should provide some good value on defense Tuesday.  Gabriel ($8) doesn’t get as many clearances, but he will get you tackles and interceptions if you need the $2 elsewhere.
