Fantasy Football Advice: Injury Info and Impact
We have two major injuries to deal with this week with Drew Brees going down for six weeks and another future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger being ruled out for the season.
The injury to Brees means that Teddy Bridgewater will likely be steering the Saints ship for the next 6 weeks unless he ends up struggling and giving way to dual-threat Taysom Hill. He will have his shot this week against Seattle to lock up the job but isn’t a very attractive option in DFS.
Big Ben’s injury paves for the way for Mason Rudolph to take over as the starter in Pittsburgh for the rest of the season and possibly the foreseeable future. He looked good in three-quarters of action against Seattle and moved the offense up and down the field. He makes for an intriguing cheap option this week against the 49ers, even if the statistics show they have been one of the best defenses this season.
The New York Jets lost backup Trevor Simien in Monday Night’s bloodbath against the Cleveland Browns leaving rookie third-string Luke Falk as the last quarterback standing for the Jets. He will face a Patriots defense that has allowed only three points in their first two games, I’m sure Brian Tulloch (aka 2LockSports) can’t wait!
Eli Manning isn’t injured, but he is being replaced by Daniel Jones this week as the starter for the 0-2 Giants. He makes for an interesting DFS play at his price (6000 FD, 5000 DK) and I am sure he will have some hype surrounding his debut.
After an excellent start to his season, Dallas slot wide receiver Michael Gallup is going to miss several weeks to a month which could make Devin Smith (5400 FD, 3400 DK) an attractive value play this week.
The Eagles look like they will be without Alshon Jeffrey this week and possibly DeSean Jackson, too. Tight end Dallas Goedert is questionable as well, which could leave Carson Wentz without several options in his passing attack. J.J. Arcega-Whiteside could have an increased role this week.
The Chiefs running back situation looks dicey with both Damien Williams and LeSean McCoy nursing injuries and questionable tags. If both would happen to miss, rookie Darwin Thompson would become a very interesting value play.
The 49ers used a running-back-by-committee last week with Matt Breida, Raheem Mostert, and Jeff Wilson Jr. all getting work. Look for that to continue this week, which makes the entire situation one to avoid for DFS.
