Jim Plunkett Division

17. Derek Carr (LW: 18)

Carr played very well on Monday night in Week 1, but throttled back in Week 2 against the Chiefs. Carr threw for less than 200 yards and launched a pair of interceptions in the 28-10 loss. For the undermanned Oakland team to win games, Carr needs to be excellent.

16. Kyler Murray (LW: 27)

Murray deserves to make the biggest jump on here. Yes, he’s thrown the ball a whopping 94 times. Yes, he’s completing only 57.4 percent of his throws. But consider the Cardinals are constantly trailing and have no line to speak of. He’s been terrific. Don’t believe me? Turn on the tape.

15. Kirk Cousins (LW: 16)

Cousins was paid $84 million guaranteed a year ago. He needs to play like someone deserving of such a pact. The Vikings held Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers to 21 points on Sunday, but never really threatened. Not good enough.

14. Jimmy Garoppolo (LW: 23)

After a rocky first week, Garoppolo shredded the Bengals. The 49ers won 41-17, and the former Eastern Illinois star threw for 297 yards with three touchdowns. San Francisco doesn’t have great weapons, and yet the attack was balanced and aggressive all afternoon.

13. Matthew Stafford (LW: 13)

Stafford stays in the same spot. The Lions are 1-0-1, and Stafford deserves some credit. Although he threw a pair of interceptions against the Chargers in Sunday’s 13-10 victory, he also drove Detroit down the field for the winning score late in the fourth.
