2020 NFL mock draft: Bengals land Justin Herbert
By Brad Weiss
The Cincinnati Bengals have gotten off to an 0-2 start in Zac Taylor’s first season at the helm, but they have played some good football during the tough start to the season. In Week 1, they nearly beat the now-undefeated Seattle Seahawks, but this past weekend, they were pasted at home by a very good San Francisco squad.
Truth be told, this is going to be a process in Cincinnati, as they have not won a playoff game in forever, and they have a rookie head coach at the helm. When it comes time for the 2020 NFL Draft, they may be looking to replace Andy Dalton, who has been very solid under center for the team, but has never led them to any big wins.
Looking at this college football season, it is hard not to get excited about Justin Herbert from Oregon, who is fresh off a five-touchdown performance this past weekend where he threw touchdowns to five different receivers. He may be the most NFL-ready quarterback in this draft, and if he is available for the Bengals, they have to jump at the chance to bring him in to their next franchise guy.
The Carolina Panthers were a heavy favorite to move to 1-1 on Thursday night, as they welcomed in a Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that was embarrassed by the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1. However, this is a Panthers team that could be one of the worst in years, and they were beaten in front of the home crowd in primetime.
There is no doubt that the Panthers have one of the elite running backs in football in Christian McCaffrey, who was brought in to take some of the pressure off of former MVP Cam Newton. However, Newton has become a shell of himself, and it is certainly time to turn the page in 2020 and beyond.
While the team did draft Wil Grier in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, there is no reason why they will not dip into a very solid 2020 quarterback class next April. Jake Fromm from Georgia is another NFL ready guy, and if he is available at No. 6 overall, a Panthers team looking to make a change at quarterback has to take a serious look at him.
